Watford vs Fulham Match Preview.

03/03/2015 18:14

Watford play fellow London club Fulham tonight at Vicarage Road in the Sky Bet Championship, with the Golden Boys looking to build on Saturdays morale boosting 2-3 win over Leeds United, which moved them into striking distance of the top 2 in the division.

Watford come into the match in 4th position in the table, just one points from second placed Middlesbrough and three from Derby County in first place. Fulham lie in 19th place in the Sky Bet Championship, in what has been a mixed season for The Cottagers, although they did do the Hornets a favour on Saturday after securing a 2-0 win over leaders Derby County.

During the match earlier this season, which was televised on Sky Sports, Watford ran out 5-0 winners. Almen Abdi scored twice and Troy Deeney netted a hat-trick in what was largely a one sided affair after Cottagers goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli was sent off midway through the first half.

It has been a turbulent season for Fulham, following their relegation from the Premier League. After forking out a believed £11 million on striker Ross McCormack, manager Felix Magath was sacked after seven games following a dismal start to the season where they took just one point. Kit Symons took over as caretaker and following a promising run, he was appointed in the position permanently. Since then, Fulham have done reasonably well, however a run of 1 win out of the last season has seen The Cottagers slide down the table, where they now sit in 19th.

The key player for Fulham tonight will be midfielder Scott Parker. Although Ross McCormack will get most of the plaudits, Parker is the man who pulls all of the strings in midfield, starting the team’s attacks and also helping out with defensive duties. As a player who has a vast amount of Premier League experience with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham, and is also an England International, Parker has proved himself to be a player of high quality on his day.

Although Fulham have been on a poor run of form lately, the Hornets cannot underestimate the Cottagers, especially after their 2- 0 victory over Derby County at the weekend. Watford cannot afford to start this evening’s match in a similar manner to Saturday’s game against Leeds, and the Golden Boys will have to be at their best in order to secure those important three points and to pile on the pressure on the top two in the Championship.

Team News.

For Watford, Joel Ekstrand is a doubt after limping out of Saturday’s game against Leeds. Odion Ighalo has recovered from a hamstring problem, however it remains to be seen whether he is fit enough to start. Adlene Guedioura could make his first Watford appearance since December, after re-signing on loan from Crystal Palace, whilst Sean Murray is ruled out.

For Fulham, Hugo Roadllega is expected to return from a knee Injury, whilst Lasse Vigen Christensen. Fernando Amorebieta is back in contention.
