Watford V Blackburn Rovers Match Preview.
Watford host Blackburn Rovers tonight at Vicarage Road in the Sky Bet Championship as the Hornets look to get back to winning ways after a disappointing 2-1 away defeat to Wigan at the weekend. Watford lie in 12th position in the Sky Bet Championship whilst Blackburn lie in 10th only 2 points above the Hornets therefore meaning that a win tonight for the golden boys will mean that Watford will leapfrog Blackburn in the table. Depending on other results, the Hornets could move up to 10th position in the table if they win. During the match earlier this season at Ewood Park, Blackburn ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a Jordan Rhodes goal in what was a tight match. Blackburn are managed by Gary Bowyer who has done a good job this season after being handed the permanent role as manager after being Interim manager during twoperiods last season. The club has been fairly consistent this season and currently lie in 10th position and have an outside chance of the playoffs. After being relegated to the Championship in May 2012, Blackburn had a tough first season back in the Championship and they finished in 16th position. A name recognisable for Watford fans among the Blackburn squad will be midfielder Lee Williamson. Williamson joined the Hornets in January 2007 for £1.2 million pounds from Rotherham United. He made 75 appearances for the Golden Boys during a two and a half year stay at the club scoring 5 goals. He left the Hornets in the summer of 2009 joining Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee. Striker Jordan Rhodes will be the key player for Blackburn tonight. Signed for £8 million pounds in the summer of 2012, Rhodes hit the ground running scoring over 20 goals. This season, Rhodes has been just a good some say even better than last season with the striker notching 20 goals already this season including a hat-trick against his former club Huddersfield Town a few weeks ago. Keeping Rhodes quiet is key for the Hornets if they stand a chance of winning this fixture as the Hornets know that if Rhodes does get a chance, he will most certainly take it. The Hornets defence managed to keep Rhodes quiet on Blackburn’s last visit to Vicarage Road in April 2013, with the striker being limited to only one clear cut chance during the Hornets 4-0 victory. With Watford seeking to get back on track and Blackburn setting their sights on the Play Offs, it looks set to be another interesting match at the Vic this evening.
For Watford, young midfielder Sean Murray is fit after missing the last few games through injury. Striker Mathias Ranegie is still suspended but will be available for this weekends match against Sheffield Wednesday. Fernando Forestieri and Park Chu Young are both out. Almen Abdi will begin his recovery in tonight’s Herts Senior Cup semi final against Boreham Wood.
For Blackburn, defender Adam Henley is out through an ankle injury. He is joined on the sidelines by Tom Cairney and Ben Marshall with both midfielders missing out because of an ankle injury.
