Transfer Deadline Day Round-up.
January’s transfer window came to a close on Monday, and deadline day was quiet for everyone in a Watford persuasion.
Three players left the club, with Watford’s attempts to sign Leicester’s Liam Moore and Genoa defender Luca Antonini rebuffed, and the Hornets will now look to the loan window to add to Slavisa Jokanovic’s squad, with the Serbian wanting the Golden Boys to add another midfielder and defender to his squad.
Irish midfielder Keith Andrews departed Vicarage Road on deadline day, following the termination of his loan deal. He has now joined his former club MK Dons on loan till the end-of-the-season. Andrews joined the Hornets in the summer on a season long loan, and was a regular in the first team squad up until the end of November, when an argument with Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic resulting in him being asked to train away from the Hornets. He spoke out against Jokanovic in Sky’s coverage of the Hornets 5-0 victory over Fulham and also appeared on Sky’s Goals On Sunday programme, saying that he was effectively on Gardening Leave. The 34 year old made 11 appearances for the Golden Boys scoring once against Huddersfield Town.
Lewis McGugan departed Vicarage Road on a temporary basis on Deadline Day, returning to Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season. McGugan spent time on loan at Hillsborough earlier this season between November and January after falling out of favour under Slavisa Jokanovic. The Hornets had been looking to sell McGugan either permanently or on loan, and he will now spend the rest of the season on loan with the Owls. Since joining the Hornets in July 2013 from Nottingham Forest, McGugan has made 44 appearances for the Golden Boys, scoring 11 times
Striker Mathias Ranegie has also left Vicarage Road, signing for Chinese team Dalian Aerbin on loan for the rest of 2015. The Swedish striker has failed to make an appearance for the Golden Boys this season, spending time on loan at Millwall before returning to Watford in November after his loan deal was terminated.
Finally, Alex Jakubiak has extended his loan deal at Dagenham and Redbridge until the end of the season.
