Match Preview: Swansea vs Watford.

17/01/2016 12:10

Watford head to the Liberty Stadium on Monday night to face Swansea City in front of the Sky Sports, with the Golden Boys looking to recover from a dismal defeat to Southampton in midweek.

It was a poor performance from Quique Sanchez Flores' men against the Saints and that result condemned the Hornets to their third defeat in a row in the Premier League.

Results on Saturday meant Watford slipped down to 12th in the table, but a win on Monday night would see them move up to 7th place in the table and three points from West Ham who currently sit in 5th position.

Swansea currently lie in the relegation following a dismal first half of the season, with the Swans last tasting victory on Boxing Day.

During the match earlier this season at Vicarage Road, it was Watford who ran out 1-0 winners, thanks to an Odion Ighalo strike mid-way through the second half, which sealed the Hornets' first victory back in the Premier League.

Valon Behrami was sent off for the Golden Boys to set up a nervy last 25 minutes, but the Hornets remained resilient and sealed the three points.

Since then, however, a lot has changed for the Swans. Gone is manage Garry Monk, who was sacked by the Welsh club in December following a run of one win in eleven games. His sacking brought the end to a 12-year association with the club and Alan Curtis has been given the reigns till the end of the season.

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has also left the club, as he moved to Newcastle for £12 million last week.

Since Monk's departure, performances have improved but results haven't and they now languish in 18th place in the table.

Despite the Swans poor position, they do possess a talented squad and the danger man for them on Monday will be Andre Ayew.

Signed in the summer from Marseille, Ayew has notched seven goals in 21 appearances this season.

Able to play as a winger or up-top, Ayew has proved he can cause any side problems on his day with his pace and skill, so the Hornets will have to be wary of the Ghanain on Monday night.

Monday night's game is one Watford need to be looking at getting points from. Whilst Swansea have showcased they are a good side in previous seasons, they are struggling down at the foot of the table and it is these teams that Watford need to be getting points off of.

The Hornets will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing showing at Southampton in mid-week, but they will have to put in a much improved performance if they wish to return to Hertfordshire with three points.
