Watford vs Norwich Match Preview.

21/02/2015 11:23

Watford play Norwich City today at Vicarage Road, in what could be one of the biggest matches of the season for the Golden Boys, and will surely define whether they are promotion contenders.

3 points separate The Hornets and The Canaries who occupy 5th and 6th position in the play offs, and today’s match promises to be an exciting match between two sides with promotion ambitions.

During the match earlier this season at Carrow Road, Norwich ran out 3-0 winners, in a contest which was effectively over after less than 2 minutes. Referee Paul Tierney, sent off Hornets defender Joel Ekstrand after less than 2 minutes, after consulting with his linesman for an alleged elbow on a Norwich player. Bradley Johnson, Lewis Grabban and Alex Tettey scored the goals which sealed the Canaries first win of the season.

Alex Neil is the Norwich City manager, and he took over in January after Neil Adams was sacked in January. The former Hamilton Academical boss has turned the Canaries fortunes around, with the East Anglia club back in the play offs for the first time since October. Norwich have won their last 3 games

The key player today for Norwich will be striker Cameron Jerome. The powerful front man has proved to be an astute signing for the Canaries, and is the clubs top scorer this season with 15 goals. His height and power could cause the Hornets defence all sorts of issues, seeing that they have struggled to deal with a big front man on a number of occasions this season.

Former Hornets loanee Sebastian Bassong is likely to line up against the Golden Boys today. The Cameroon international defender spent a spell on loan at Watford this season in order to gain some game time after falling out with Neil Adams. He made 11 appearances for Watford, before returning to Norwich where Alex Neil had just taken charge, and he has now been given a chance to prove his worth which he has grasped with both hands. If Neil Adams was still in charge at Carrow Road, it looked increasingly likely that Bassong would have remained with the Golden Boys for the rest of the season.

Today’s match looks set to be a cracker at Vicarage Road, between two sides who have promotion ambitions. The Hornets are unbeaten in February, showing another side of their game in the progress, and they will have to be at their best if they want to gain the all important 3 points. A win would cement the Hornets promotion credentials, and would also put some clear daylight between 6th placed Norwich.
