Watford vs Ipswich Match Preview.
Ipswich Town are the visitors to Vicarage Road tomorrow, in what will surely be a stern test of Watford’s promotion credentials.
The game, which will be the feature game on the BBC’S The Football League Show, is the last before an international break, with the Golden Boys next match coming against Derby County on Good Friday.
Watford come into the game as the Championships Leaders on goal difference following their 0-2 victory over Wigan in midweek. Ipswich have promotion ambitions of themselves, in what has been a good season for the Tractor Boys, however their form has dipped in recent weeks and they come into the game in 7th position.
During the match earlier this season at Portman Road, it was Ipswich who ran out 1-0 winners thanks to defender Tommy Smith’s strike in the 83rd minute. The Hornets were left to rue their finishing on that day, as they certainly could have taken something away from that match if they took one of the many chances that they had.
Ipswich are managed by former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy who has done an excellent job during his tenure at Portman Road. The 56 year old guided Ipswich to a solid mid-table finish during his first season at the club after, taking the managerial reigns with the club bottom of the division. Since then, the Tractor Boys have gone from strength to strength, with the East Anglian side finishing 9th last season, and their form this season has seen them be in and around the promotion mix.
The key player for Ipswich tomorrow will be striker Daryl Murphy. The Republic Of Ireland international has been in superb form this season, and is the Championship’s top goal scorer with 23 goals. His partnership with David McGoldrick has been formidable at times this season, and 32 year old has proven to be deadly when given a sniff of goal this season. He will undoubtedly be a constant threat for the Tractor Boys tomorrow.
For Watford, Almen Abdi and Sean Murray are both ruled out through injury. New signing Matthew Connolly, could make his debut after he signed on loan this week.
For Ipswich, Mick McCarthy has a number of players ruled out with injury. David McGoldrick, Teddy Bishop, Jonathan Parr, Darren Ambrose and Dean Gerken are all ruled out for the Tractor Boys.
