Watford vs Blackburn Rovers Match Preview.
Blackburn Rovers are the visitors to Vicarage Road tomorrow, with Watford looking to get back to winning ways, after last weeks defeat to Bournemouth in front of the Sky cameras. The match was ruined by referee Lee Probert after 30 seconds, after he decided to send off Gabriele Angella when there were defenders covering, effectively ruining the Hornets chances of getting anything out of the game.
Watford come into the game in 6th position and could move ahead of 5th place Brentford if the Hornets win and results go there way. Blackburn lie in 9th position in the table with 39 points, in what has been a good season to date for the Lancashire outfit.
During the match between the two sides earlier this season, Watford threw away a 0-2 half time lead, as goals from Blackburn’s Rudy Gestede and Ryan Tunnicliffe in the second half meant that the Hornets came away with 1 point instead of 3, as the Golden Boys held on for a 2-2 draw. Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes came to the rescue for Watford in the 2nd half, as he made some top saves to ensure that Watford came away with 1 point.
Blackburn are managed by Gary Bowyer, who took charge of the Lancashire outfit ahead of the 2013/14 season on a one year rolling contract, following spells as caretaker manager the season before. He guided them to an 8th place finish last season, with the form of Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede being central to their late play off charge.
The danger man for Blackburn Rovers tomorrow will be Rudy Gestede. Gestede seems to have something of a habit of scoring against Watford, netting against the Hornets during the 3-3 draw at Vicarage Road last March and also scored against the Golden Boys during the 2-2 draw earlier this season. The Benin international is strong in the air, and has proved to be lethal for Rovers this season scoring 13 times. Watford haven’t been great when trying to defend against a target men, so Gestede will prove to be a tough task for the Hornets back three tomorrow.
Whilst the Hornets were defeated last week, they have improved after the past three games, and may have got something out of last weeks match against Bournemouth if Angella wasn’t sent off. Blackburn will prove to be a tough test seeing that they have promotion ambitions of their own, but if the Hornets put in a similar performance as they did against Charlton and in the second half vs Blackpool, then they will give themselves a good chance of securing all three points tomorrow.
For Watford, Gabriele Angella is available after his red card against Bournemouth was rescinded. Juan-Carlos Paredes is available after recovering from a hamstring problem whilst Almen Abdi and Fernando Forestieri have returned to training and will be assessed in the build up to the match. Joel Ekstrand and Sean Murray are ruled out.
For Blackburn, Rudy Gestede is available after missing Rovers previous game against Fulham, whilst Jay Spearing may also feature. David Dunn is ruled out whilst Josh King could be available to bolster Blackburn’s front line.
