Watford ended their 11 game winless run in style after a convincing 4-0 win over Millwall on Boxing Day at Vicarage Road which sealed Guiseppe Sannino's first win as Watford manager on his home debut. This was Millwalls third straight defeat and was the end of Steve Lomas reign as manager with the Northern Irishman being sacked after the match. Goals from Troy Deeney, Fernando Forestieri, Ikechi Anya and Lewis McGugan saw the Hornets win their first game at Vicarage Road since the 1-0 win over Wigan. Guiseppe Sannino made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Ipswich. Daniel Pudil missed out through injury so Ikechi Anya came in to the side whilst Fernando Forestieri took the place of Diego Fabbrini who dropped to the bench. Hector Belleren returned to the bench after injury. For Millwall, Steve Lomas made five changes to the side with Justin Hoyte, Danny Shittu, Shane Lowry, Guy Moussi and Jermain Easter all coming in to the side. Watford started the better and were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute by referee Andy D'urso. Cassetti played Troy Deeney through on goal and the striker was about to shoot before he was bough down by Millwall captain and former Hornet Danny Shittu. D'urso had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and sent off Shittu meaning that the Lions were down to 10 men. Deeney took up the responsibility and cooly stroked the penalty in to the bottom corner to put the Hornets 1-0 up. This was the strikers 11th goal of the season. However, the Hornets would have been pegged back two minutes later if it werent fo a great piece of defending by Ikechi Anya. From a Millwall corner, Steve Morrison was allowed a free header which looked destiened to go in if it werent for a great goal line clearence from Ikechi Anya. This was the best chance Millwall had all game. Watford should have had a second penalty soon after that when Forestieri played Deeney in one on one but the striker was pulled down by Shane Lowry. However, D'urso waved away the Hornets strong claim. The Hornets did get their second goal in the 26th minute. Sean Murray collected the ball and played it out wide to Ikechi Anya whose first time cross found Forestieri who took a touch before putting the ball into the back of the net to put Watford two to the good. This was Forestieri's 5th goal of the season. Three minutes later and the score should have been three nil when Lewis McGugans free kick was met by Marco Cassetti whose header went just over the bar. The Hornets had one good chance six minutes before the break when Forestieri played the ball into McGugan whose shot deflected behind after a touch from Deeney. Just before the break, Forestieri was booked for a late challenge.

Half Time - 2-0

Three minutes after the break and it was 3-0 to the golden boys. George Thorne played a good cross field ball to Anya who looked like he was going to cross the ball. Instead he cut inside and storde forwards with lightning pace before hitting a great right footed stike into the top corner of Fordes goal from 25 yards. This was Anya's second goal of the season and his sixth goal for the golden boys since joining the club last season. Two minutes later and it was nearly 4-0 when Forestieri's fizzing strike smacked the oppositions post. Millwall though they had pulled a goal back a few minutes later after Beevers nodded home a free kick but the goal was chalked off for off side. Lewis McGugan then saw a delightful left foot effort hit the crossbar. Watford then won a second penalty after a handball by Paul Robinson. Andy D'urso wasnt going to initilally give the penalty but assistant Ian Crouch flagged. Troy Deeney handed over penalty duty to Lewis McGugan who stroked the ball into the bottom corner. This was McGugans sixth goal of the season all of which have come at Vicarage Road. Forestieri then saw a chested effort ruled out for off side. Watford then hit the woodwork for a third time after break away saw Lewis McGugans effort smack the underside of the bar. Manuel Almunia looked all set for a clean sheet but had to make his first save in the 88th minute after a Justin Hoyte Shot. Forestieri then saw a late overhead kick saved by Forde.
