Watford 0 - 0 Milwall Match Report
Watford drew 0 - 0 with a resilliant Millwall side at Vicarage Road on tuesday night. The game was billed as a cracker before kick off but the game never really got going. Almen Abdi hit the crossbar in the fianl minutes but it was more a cross then a shot summing up a 'nearly' evening for Gianfranco Zola's side. Zola made one change to the side that beat Leicester. Out was the injured Fitz Hall and in came Joel Ekstrand to make his full debut for the club. In the first few minutes goalscorer against Leicester Almen Abdi turned and curled a shot narrowly wide of the Millwall goal which suggested a game full of promise. But it was far from that with Watford finding it difficult to break down Millwall. This was largely down to Milwalls wingers James Henry and Chris Taylor working exceptionally hard to pressurise Watfords extra wide men in the 3-5-2 system. Milwalls on loan striker Chris Wood should have done better on the 17 minute mark when Lloyd Doyley headered a free kick in to his path. But his scuffed shot went wide. Nathaniel Chlaobah gave away the ball on the half hour and was nearly punished when former 'Orn' Darius Henderson shot wide wastefully on his apparently weaker foot. Then came Watford's best moments of the first 45 during the final 5 minutes when firstly Almen Abdi's shot was saved by Forde but only to the path of Tommie Hoban. He hit the shot with his thigh and was easily saved by Forde. But into injury time Pudil's shot was beaten out by Forde but only to Fernando Forestieri. He lobbed the keeper but their were two Milwall defenders on the line who cleared.
Half Time 0-0
The second half did not live up to expectations either. Shane Lowry created the first chance for the visitors when his shot was saved by Hornets Captain Manuel Almunia. Troy Deeney had the Rookery on their feet when his shot looked like it was going in. But instead it hit the post behind the goal. Forestieri should have done better on 67 minutes when his neat 1-2 with Deeney allowed him to have a shot from 15 yars which he scuffed wide. In the 85th Minute Jonathan Hogg (Who Still hasnt scored for the Hornets) shot from 20 yards blazing wide. But then deep into injury time Watford hit the crossbar through Almen Abdi's cross. After hitting the crossbar, the ball fell to Daniel Pudil whose accrobatic overhead volley from an accute angle nearly went in. But it wasnt to be and the match finished 0-0. Still Watford can take some positives. A clean sheet and now 3 games unbeaten at home is not bad.
