Smith joins Gillingham on Loan
Today young midfielder Connor Smith joined League One Side Gillingham on loan for the rest of the season. The 20 year old joined the Hornets from the clubs academy before the start of the 2011/12 season and has made 12 appearances for the Hornets to date the last of which coming in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City in the FA Cup with Smith setting up Sean Murray for Watfords goal. He has made five appearances for the Goldon Boys this season. Smith is well known for this appearance on Footballs Next Star with the winner earning a contract with Inter Milan with the Irishman coming second in the show. This loan transfer will be a good move for Smith who has found it difficult to break into the Watford first team when all midfielders have been fit with most of his appearances coming due to injurys to other players. The loan will allow him to get some much needed game time and to get the feel of playing competitively weekly after his only other loan spell was at Wealdstone. This move will hopefully allow him to improve his game so that he can come back next season in the hope of cementing a position in the Hornets midfield. The Irishman will link up with Peter Taylors side in time for their trip to Colchester this weeked. Good Luck Connor!!!
