Sheffield Wednesday vs Watford Match Preview.
Watford head to Hillsborough on Saturday to play Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship, in what will be Slavisa Jokanovic’s first match as head coach.
Watford come into the match on a five match unbeaten run, with the Hornets winning two and drawing three.
The Golden Boys lie in 3rd position in the table, level on points with 1st and 2nd place Norwich City and Nottingham Forest, whilst Sheffield Wednesday have had a good start to the season themselves as they sit in 9th position with 17 points.
The Hornets have fond memories of their travels to Sheffield, with Watford beating Wednesday 1-4 on both away trips to Hillsborough since the club returned to the Championship ahead of the 2012/13 season. Watford’s only defeat in the last four meetings between the two clubs, occurred at Vicarage Road last season when Connor Wickhams free kick sealed a 0-1 victory for the Owls in what was to be Gianfranco Zola’s last game as Watford head coach.
The Owls are managed by Stuart Gray and the former Southampton and Nottingham Forest midfielder has done an excellent job since being given the head coach role. After guiding the club to a 16th place finish in the league last season, the Owls currently lie in 9th position and have had an excellent start to the season which has seen them gain victories over the likes of Reading and Brighton.
Gray made some astute signings in the summer including former Sunderland and Coventry keeper Kieron Westwood on a free transfer and St Johnstone striker Stevie May. Westwood has been in fine form for the Owls this season, making some excellent saves to preserve the clubs goal. Former St Johnstone striker May has scored three goals for the Owls and his physical presence could cause the Golden Boys defence all sorts of problems.
Watford will be looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow after their 1-1 draw with Brighton before the international break, however Sheffield Wednesday cannot be underestimated after a good start to the season. The Hornets will have to be at their best tomorrow and its looks set to be another difficult away trip for the Golden Boys.
For Sheffield Wednesday, defender Sam Hutchinson could return for the club after recovering from a back injury. Midfielder Kieron Lee is expected to be fit whilst defender Kamil Zayatte is injured.
For Watford, defender Sebastien Bassong could make his debut after signing on loan from Norwich City last week. Fernando Forestieri is fit after recovering from a eye injury whilst captain Troy Deeney could return. Defenders Gabriele Angella and Craig Cathcart are both injured as well as Keith Andrews.
