Watford kick off their Capital One Cup exploits with a trip to Deepdale this evening, to face Championship side, Preston North End.

A host of Premier League sides have entered the competition in the second round alongside the Hornets and Quique Sanchez Flores will be hoping to record his first win as Watford head coach tonight, after three draws so far in the Premier League.

Preston North End returned to the Championship for the first time in four years back in May, as they defeated Swindon Town in the League One Play Off Final. The Lilywhites have recorded 5 points from their opening four games of the season and currently lie in 12th position in the table.

Former Leeds and Huddersfield Town boss Simon Grayson, is the manager of the Lilywhites and the 45 year-old has done an excellent job during his tenure at Deepdale, steadying the ship and ultimately, masterminding their promotion push last season in League One.

One Preston North End player who Watford supporters will be all too familiar with is striker, Joe Garner.

Garner moved to Vicarage Road from Nottingham Forest in August 2011, but it is fair to say that the striker failed to find his scoring touch, managing just one goal in 27 appearances.

He joined Preston North End on a free transfer in January 2013 and the 27 year old hasn’t looked back since, scoring 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Tonight’s game will be no easy task for the Golden Boy’s. Preston have had a good start to the season in the Championship and will be looking to bounce back in style, after Saturday’s narrow defeat to Ipswich Town. Therefore, the Hornets will have to put in a good performance in order to progress to the third round of the competition.

Simon Grayson’s Preston North End are without a number of key players. Jermaine Beckford, Will Keane, Greg Cunningham and Jordan Hugill are all unavailable for tonight’s game.
